This is the first issue of a new series launched by the Instytut Choreologii (The Institute of Choreology) in Poznan. [...] This series is intended to secure a forum for presenting articles on various aspects of dance. There are very few such opportunities in the present range of publications. Publishers are rarely interested in scholarly writing on dance, however, the results of dance scholarship are presently very much needed and sought after by educators, enlightened teachers and researchers of dance, and increasingly by those involved in humanity studies in general. The series of 'Dance Studies' published by the Centre for Dance Studies in Jersey, over the last twenty five years, was concluded with vol. 20. It has shown us the way to start this new series, allowing, however, for a wider range of topics.
