This powerful necklace is anchored by a West African Baule tribe mask, 1-3/4" long x 1-1/4" wide (45x30mm). Actual masks in African culture always have a spiritual connection, representing gods, spirits, or ancestors. Smaller reproductions like this are more for decoration. The cast brass mask is hand-made by Baule artisans from Ghana and the Ivory Coast. The center section of the necklace features (from the bottom) a 44mm modern brass reproduction of an old Chinese coin which says "May the treasure come to me"; faceted laboratory-grown quartz, clear with moss green diagonal strands that remind me of ocean waves; a long sodalite wave (note the ocean and wave theme here!); and a smaller Chinese coin. These four components are epoxied together. On top is a 16mm Chinese cloisonne enamel bead with a floral design, gold-tone and royal blue background with pink and rust flowers.
