Typography by Henri Plon. ?The female costume over time until the 19th. century and beyond.Artists and Engravers: Alfred Grevin (French 1827-1892) was a designer and painter of costumes. He was employed by the railroad in Lyon before he started at Journal Amusant and at Petit Journal pour Rire in 1859. He was very successful. Grevin put spiritful legends below his designs. Together with Adrien Huart 1869 he founded l'Almanach des Parisiennes in 1869. Grevin was also successful as a designer and painter of theatre costumes. In 1882 he founded the Mus�e des figures, a Wax Figure Museum in Paris that carries his name. Plate by Firmin Gillot. Firmin Gillot, father of Charles Gillot (1820-1872), invented in 1852 the paniconography for which he took a patent (photoengraving in relief according to the letterpress). Later, he invented a new process, again in relief, but nonphotographic.
