Man findet zwar noch Kopftücher und Wintermützen, aber der richtige Hut ist nur noch in bestimmten Gruppen zu finden. Hierzu zählen zum Beispiel Prominente, Adlige und andere gehobene Schichten. Ein gutes Beispiel hierfür ist das Pferderennen in Ascot/England. Jede Frau, die was auf sich hält, trägt dort einen Hut, der in Farbe, Form und Größe sehr auffällig sein kann. Der Hut und seine Moden konnten früher aber auch noch heute schnell politisch werden - sei es als rote Jakobinermütze oder als Zylinder aus der 1848er Revolution mit schwarz-rot-goldener Kokarde.
